Documents = Newspaper clipping from The Times referencing John Christie’s memorial service, Margaret Bellamy’s Membership Card for the Glyndebourne Sunday Club and a typescript of Margaret Bellamy’s memories of the years she worked for Audrey and John Christie.

In a letter from John Christie to Margaret Bellamy, 08 January 1954, John Christie writes, “It was Audrey who changed my policy from the mere idea of doing Opera in England for the English - because in 1931 it existed so little in this Country - to the purpose (sic!) of doing it supremely well. We immediately collaborated on this new purpose, changed radically the plans of the Opera House, engaged Fritz Busch who brought Carl Ebert, and embarked on the scheme of presenting International Opera on the highest level with the younger singers and fresh voices and the best coaches and the best conditions of rehearsal.”

He continues, “It was Audrey’s plan - she was the leader…I said I should not have done this without her. She said she could not have done it without me.”
