Scope and content
Mr Craig provides notes as an aide-memoir for Carl Ebert, ahead of a recording for the BBC Overseas Service about Glyndebourne. He writes -

“Both you and Fritz Busch thought that Mr Christie was, to say the least, eccentric but you were so impressed with the enthusiasm of both Christies that you agreed to their proposals. In a desperately troubled world this seemed like a last asylum for men of culture and integrity…”

“The most fascinating thing about it all was the staggering combination of the refined life of an old-English country home on the one hand, and the intense artistic idealism on the other…It was because of this atmosphere that you were able to pursue your own theories and ideals to a degree which has made Glyndebourne what it now is, an internationally famous opera house which started almost like a family party.”
