Scope and content: Letter from Moran Caplat to Carl Ebert, 13 December 1955, states “We have engaged Joan Sutherland for Electra. She made an outstanding impression in the audition on Mr Christie, John Pritchard and myself. Vocally she will be the best Electra we have had and I am sure, since she looks right for the part, you will be able to do a great deal with her as an actress.”
[Joan Sutherland never played Electra at Glyndebourne. Her first appearance was as Countess Almaviva in Le Nozze Di Figaro during the 1956 Festival]
