In a separate letter to George Foa, 24 July 1951, Moran Caplat writes, “Just to thank you for having been so unfailingly cheerful and cooperative and for having in my opinion at least, transferred our ‘Cosi’ production to the television screen with the greatest faithfulness that present day technical problems would allow.”

In a letter to David Harris, 05 June 1951, Moran Caplat writes, “There are no scenes for each act of Idomeneo. We merely describe it by saying that the action of the opera takes place in Crete. The scenery is so designed that each act will go straight through without any pauses and the scene changes will be more a matter of change of picture than anything geographical. The only alternative would be to be rather Shakespearian and keep talking about another part of the island, another room in the Palace, and that sort of thing.”

Moran Caplat writes, 02 October 1950, “...we have failed again in our attempt to get together all the forces we need to do ‘Orfeo’ in Edinburgh in 1951. Jooss is definitely not available until 1952 and we have not found a ballet group anywhere with which we are willing to risk it. As far as I am concerned (and a lot of other people too,) if you are singing the ballet is a very secondary matter, but I am sure you will agree that when we do ‘Orfeo’ again it must be a really outstanding production in all respects, so let us keep our fingers crossed for 1952.”

Anthony Besch writes, 11 September 1951, “...Cosi Fan Tutte is, in fact, a re-interpretation of the 18th century in the best tradition and tastes of later years. Thus the production is composed of details which in themselves may hail from the 18th, 19th or 20th centuries - in the same way that a singer’s or musician’s technique derives from all three - but all the details together form we hope a unified whole which is intended to interprete [sic] the music as perfectly as possible.”

It is obviously not easy for them to do so as our standard is not only international, but we aim at getting the best possible artists irrespective of any other consideration…We can say at once that we do not mind whether the artists are known or unknown.”

Moran Caplat writes, 23 April 1951, “Regarding your credit in the programmes: I propose that for the operas concerned you should appear thus “Technical and Lighting Consultant - Michael Northern” in a good position at the head of credits. The Glyndebourne programme is not laid out in the ordinary way and you will have to trust to me that your name will be given all the prominence due to you in fair juxtaposition to other important members of the organisation. “Director” is a title only given to Professor Ebert and Dr Busch (we have not even a Stage Director) so that I hope “Consultant” will prove an acceptable alternative.”
