Moran Caplat writes, 10 April 1952, “The Opera House has been extensively altered during the winter. The proscenium is now nearly six feet wider and there is more room on the prompt side since we have removed the works of the organ and thrown that space into the stage. The roof of the auditorium has been altered and the pillars are now at the ends of the rows instead of being inside them. The balcony is three rows deeper and there is a new Glyndebourne Box, a special sound-proof box for the B.B.C. and a control box for the Producer’s staff, all at the back of the balcony. Although the theatre is deeper than it was, it actually looks less long and narrow than it did and the general appearance is considerably improved.”
