Queen Mary writes, 13 July 1947, “It was a great pleasure to visit Glyndebourne again and I feel sure the enjoyment one derives from attending any opera there is greatly enhanced by the delightful atmosphere of the place to say nothing of the wonderful hospitality one receives from yourself and Mr. Christie. I was indeed glad to hear “Lucretia” again and I feel it is an opera that one likes better each time. “Albert Herring”is a great contrast but so gay and full of incident. I enjoyed it enormously.”
