Rosemary Ellis (14 letters)
Rosemary Ellis writes, 30 December 1948, “I do think, however, that the girls [Ushers] would look better in ordinary afternoon frocks than in the dirndls worn in previous seasons, and I am sure it will be difficult to persuade the prospective ushers to wear them. Firstly, they are not “New Look” and secondly, the weather at Glyndebourne in the Spring , will probably be far from warm.”

Moran Caplat writes, 30 December 1948, “I will ask Mrs Christie what she feels about the dirndls. I know that the girls were not too happy in them…”

Moran Caplat writes to Mr Harvey at Glyndebourne, 16 March 1949, “I think this is the first time we have ever had anything at Glyndebourne as early as April. Will you be able to find flowers for the dining hall and for the corners of the stage? I hope so, because they do make such a difference. I realise the pot plants will not be ready, but seeing that the concerts are only for two days at a time perhaps you can do something with cut flowers and shrubs.”
